Important Information and Deadlines for Families Wishing to Register for JK English in 2018-2019 – Please Read

Dear Parents and Guardians,

This message is for Palmerston families who live outside the Palmerston Public School catchment area.

If you would like your child to be considered for the English Junior Kindergarten program for the 2018-2019 year, you need to complete an Optional Attendance form and submit it to the Palmerston Public school office by February 16, 2018.

Optional Attendance Application Form

If there is space available in the 2018-2019 Junior Kindergarten program, we will be able to enrol your child under Optional Attendance. If the number of Optional Attendance applications exceeds the number of available spaces (if any), a lottery will be held.

Please note that we will accept students into the English JK program if they are currently enrolled in the Palmerston Community Daycare Centre and have completed the appropriate paperwork.

If you have any questions, please contact me.

Matthew

Procedure 545: Optional Attendance Procedures for Parents

Please see the attachment below for the full procedure.  Below are the points that you may find helpful.

Optional Attendance Policy

4.6 Applications for optional attendance (available on the link above) are to be completed and signed by the parent/guardian and returned to the school the student currently attends – or will attend (i.e., their home school by address).

4.7 The home school principal or a designate shall sign the application.

4.8 The parent/guardian will forward or deliver the application to the requested elementary school. (See Appendix A)

4.9 Students will be accepted by the requested school according to the admission priorities defined in the Optional Attendance Policy. The students will be assigned to priority categories based on the criteria outlined in the policy. Admission of students will be determined by addressing each priority category sequentially, beginning with Priority One, and examining the number of requests in a priority category and the space available. If space is available for the requests in a priority category, all the students in the category will be accepted before addressing the next priority. If requests in a priority category exceed the space available, students in that category will be accepted through a lottery1 (no further priority categories would be addressed).

4.10 A lottery will be held for elementary schools and conducted by the requested school (see Appendix A).

4.11 Parents/Guardians must inform the requested school of acceptance. (See Appendix A)

4.12 Forms for students who accept the offer of admission will be forwarded to the TDSB home school.
